A Tale of Two Teams

One team looked fabulous tonight, and one did not. Let’s have you take a guess and see which one did well.

I have one game that ended with a score of 11-15 and one game end with a score of 110-124.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I have yet to see a ballgame that makes it to the 100’s… or the 40’s for that matter… I have no idea what the highest scoring game was. I read somewhere that the Rangers beat the Orioles in 2007 with a score of 30-3 or something. That’s pretty high.

Anyway, yes, the Rockies ended with a losing score of 15-11, which makes it sound closer than it actually was. They didn’t get those last six runs until the bottom of the ninth, a good start to the rally, but only a worthy attempt.

The Nuggets, on the other hand, ended with a winning score of 110-124. Our two biggest stars, Chauncey Billups had 28 points and Carmelo Anthony had 30. The last time the Nuggets made it to the Western Conference Finals was 1985… that was the year I was born and Carmelo Anthony was like… one.

Garrett Atkins45.jpgTomorrow, I’ve got tickets seven rows behind third base in section 141, a dream come true to see my favorite player. Garrett Atkins is our usual third baseman, however, odds are, he won’t be playing in that spot. In fact, most likely, I’ll be admiring Ian Stewart from that distance instead. Atkins hasn’t been swinging a bat like he usually does. I think tonight he went 0-3 or something along those lines… I maybe made that one up, I’m not sure. For the past three years, Atkins has driven in at least 99 runs, with a career high in 2006 of 120. Right now, his stats aren’t projecting anything good, so one can only hope he harnesses his “2006-2008 Atkins” and can gain the clean up spot back.

A 15-11 loss… I guess it could’ve been worse… we could’ve lost to the Pirates. That was kind of a burn to both Jeff and Matt. Sorry, the Pirates are ranked last in power rankings.
Chris Iannetta.jpg
Chris Iannetta hit a grand slam tonight. You want pressure? Bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, two outs.

In game three of the Nuggets vs. Mavs, Melo made this shot after being fouled that started some controversy on the lack of a call.

That shot was like Iannetta’s home run. Melo would say, “those are the moments you live for.” It was an incredibly high pressure situation. While everyone was busy complaining that the refs didn’t make a call and the NBA added insult to injury by saying that they screwed up, everyone forgot that Melo made an incredible shot. One of those that seemed impossible and far too good to be true, that shot was entirely against all odds.

So, the Rockies and Astros are tied in the series 1-1. I’m hoping that tomorrow they’ll win it for me. I’m changing up the outfit, so one can only hope that Tom’s strategy works. Maybe I’ll find him a pink hat to wear!

I’m not a basketball fan but the Nuggets did a great job. Have fun tomorrow! (or today rather) It’s always fun when you watch a favorite player at the game and taking bunch of pictures of them 🙂 Too bad he’s not going to play at third. Padres slipped down to fourth place. Not cool!

I hope Tom looks as good in a pink hat as Scott does! lol!! Have a great time at the game! And B-Ball! My Celtics play tonight! yay! And so do the Bruins! I’m glad the Red Sox play this afternoon! lol! Refs have been making bad calls in all sports this season. On Tuesday night? The Bruins’ announcers – on air – said they wanted some of whatever the refs were smoking after it becomes legal because off all the penalities they missed!

I’ve sat by third base before. Three rows from the field at US Cellular. Back when Joe Crede was still there and not horribly injured. It was a BEAUTIFUL sight. I was super giddy, and it was awesome. I think we should work on the pink hat for Tom. 🙂

Sorry I missed you. I flew to Pittsburgh today — cheaper ticket but connection through Atlanta. Sounds like the game didn’t go well for the Fighting Rockies. Guess they’ll have to get it done on the road.

Hyun Young- Thanks! I had a blast at the game! And guess who did play third?!?! WEE!! I took like… 90 pictures at the game total, and I’m pretty sure at least 75 of them were Garrett Atkins.
Julia- I don’t think Tom is aware of this plot that we have created for him. Good luck to the Celtics in game 7.
Jeff- I guess it’s a good thing Atkins isn’t on your fantasy team, that way you didn’t have to kick him off like you did Spilborghs. 😉
Kaybee- It was probably one of the greatest moments in my life being so close to my favorite player! I was totally stoked.
Jen- I was definitely super giddy sitting there. I couldn’t even contain myself. And I am totally down with finding that pink hat for Tom.
Thomas- No big deal. I know your a Penguins fan, glad to see they won that series! I’ll look to the Rockies to win something on the road!

I actually got Spilborghs back… I dumped Ricky Nolasco, picked up Carpenter (currently on the DL) and got Ryan to fill the void… though somebody’s gotta go when Carp gets back. Hopefully Ryan will make me keep him. I love watching that guy play. Couple years ago I was sitting in the right field bleachers at Wrigley and the dumb Cub fans were giving him a hell of a time. He played the game though and was jabbering back, smiling even. He became a crowd favorite by the end of the series and that’s sayin’ a lot.

Tommy- I’ll consider the pink hat. After that series against the Pirates, I can only hope the hat would be lucky.
D- We Rockies bloggers gotta stick together, I’ll send people your way anytime.
Jeff- Hope Spilborghs isn’t making you regret the decision to pick him back up. He’s been doing pretty well and had the most amazing catch the other night. He’s a great guy and can usually win over a crowd, glad to see he could win over the Cubs crowd… jerks.
